UK FCA Opens Consultations on DeFi Guidance and Crypto Regulation Perimeter

Bollcoin, October 23 — The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has launched two parallel consultations seeking industry views on the boundaries of DeFi and of its upcoming cryptoasset regulatory framework. Both consultations close on November 18, 2026; the FCA plans to publish final guidance in January 2027 after reviewing feedback. The first consultation targets FCA-regulated firms that use DeFi protocols or facilitate access to them. The guidance is not intended to introduce a new rulebook, but to clarify how existing regulatory requirements apply when firms provide services through highly automated, distributed-ledger-based systems. The second consultation examines the scope of cryptoasset regulation — the "regulatory perimeter" — in light of recent legislative changes.
