Bollcoin, October 28: According to Thaiger, the plenary session of Thailand's Supreme Court issued Judgment No. 4929/2569, ruling that Bitcoin constitutes "property" and that cases involving Bitcoin can amount to property crimes. The case was brought by prosecutors in Koh Samui against the defendant "Mr. A" (นาย อ.). In the case, the victim exchanged US$50,000 (about 1.878 million baht at the exchange rate at the time) into Bitcoin and then transferred it to the gang. The court held that Bitcoin has market value, can be exchanged for cash, and can be held, so its value is no less than the amount paid when it was exchanged. The ruling also cited the Bank of Thailand's opinion: although cryptocurrency is not legal tender, that is a separate question from whether it can be recognized as property. The judgment cited Section 137 of the Civil and Commercial Code and Sections 309 and 340 of the Criminal Code, among other provisions.
