Bollcoin reported on October 22, citing Reuters, that U.S. President Trump said on Truth Social on Wednesday that companies building data centers should pay "dividends" to host communities if they want their projects to gain local support. He said some data centers that were originally very unpopular locally became very popular after reaching financial agreements. Trump also said he has asked new large data centers to build their own power facilities, with surplus electricity supplied or sold to the local community or grid. In February he already proposed that big tech companies must build their own power plants for data centers to avoid rising consumer electricity bills. Data centers consume large amounts of water and electricity and have become a focus of political controversy in many parts of the U.S. In addition, Anthropic recently announced it would set aside 5% of its shares for a "public interest" fund, while Musk promised every child in America one share of SpaceX stock.
